São Paulo – Next Thursday (5th), São Paulo’s Club Homs will host the first ever performance in the city of the Palestinian folk group Al Koufyja (“the veil” in Arabic). The group will also give a performance in Brasília, during the Arab Week.
“The company is formed by children and adults who live in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon. They are coming to Brazil for the first time to present Palestinian folklore,” said the ambassador of Palestine in Brasília, Ibrahim Alzeben.
According to information from Club Homs, Al Koufyia is composed of 17 people and hails out of the Shatila refugee camp, where approximately 8,500 live. The event at Club Homs is organized by the Palestinian Embassy and the Federation of Arab-Brazilian Organizations (Fearab) in São Paulo.
During the Arab Week, in Brasília, the group was scheduled to perform last Friday (29th). Club Homs hosts Arab cultural events on a regular basis.
