São Paulo – A report about the Somalia’s food situation released this Thursday (29) states that 730,000 people in the North Africa country are facing food insecurity. The majority of these people come from situations of internal conflicts. According to data released by UN Radio, other 2.3 million could be headed to the group at risk.
The report acknowledges that the North of Africa isn’t going through a drought, such as the one that affected the region in 2011 and worsened the hunger crisis, and that the rhythm of humanitarian aid has grown. On the other hand, the available resources aren’t proportional to the number of people in need of assistance.
According to estimates brought out by the statement, 350,000 people are in danger of not receiving food at the start of February already and 203,000 children are malnourished and in need of food supplements.
