São Paulo – The international prices of primary food products eased slightly in July after going up for five straight months, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). The FAO Food Price Index (FPI) reached 161.9 points last month, down 0.8% from June and 1.4% from July 2015.
According to the FAO, the index went down primarily due to a reduction in prices of grains and vegetable oils, since the cost of dairy, meats and sugar went up. Maize and wheat prices dropped, but rice prices increased. Soy, sunflower and rapeseed oil prices declined, with palm oil price dropping the most.
