São Paulo – On December 19th, Porto Alegre, the capital of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, will host the 10th Match Against Poverty, a soccer game featuring some of the top players in the world, to raise funds for projects to fight poverty in Brazil and Africa. The two teams will be coordinated by Ronaldo and Zidane. Each will pick and lead their teams.
Thus far, 20 players have confirmed their participation, according to the website of the United Nations. Ronaldo and Zidane are ambassadors of Goodwill for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Ronaldo’s team features Neymar and Lucas, stars of the Brazilian Team, as well as Romário, among others.
The match will be played on Grêmio’s Arena, in Porto Alegre, and is backed by the International Federation of Association Football (Fifa) and the Union of European Football Associations (Uefa).
