São Paulo – Foreign ministers Celso Amorim (Brazil) and Mohamed Benaïssa (Morocco), published a joint statement in which they stressed "the importance of encouraging Brazilian and Moroccan economic operators to take advantage of commercial opportunities between both countries." In this point of view, both confirmed mutual interest in beginning negotiations for the creation of a free trade zone between the Mercosur and Morocco.
As anticipated by ANBA this morning, the Moroccan minister had discussed the possibility of an accord with the Mercosur yesterday (12) with president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Earlier today, Benaïssa visited the president of the lower house, representative João Paulo Cunha (PT-SP), and, according to information provided by the lower house news agency, Agência Câmara, among the incentive measures being studied to improve commercial relations between both countries is the reactivation of a direct flight between the cities of Casablanca, and Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in southeastern Brazil.
The Moroccan foreign minister will be leaving Brazil today, heading to Chile, and then Argentina.
