São Paulo – Children aged six to 12 are eligible for the sixth edition of the drawing contest Brasileirinhos no mundo (Little Brazilians around the world), held annually by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry with Brazilian expatriates and their children. This year’s theme is ”What I learned in school.” The drawings must be submitted to diplomatic offices at entrants’ places of residence by April 29.
The contest is divided into three categories: the first one is for children aged six or seven as of the date of entry; the second category is for children aged eight and nine; and the third one is for children aged 10 to 12. Drawings can be made using watercolor, gouache, pens, collages, fabric and other materials, using A3-size paper.
Each child may enter only one drawing. Schools or institutions with large numbers of Brazilian students can enter their students, provided that a teacher or responsible party is in charge. The drawings must be previously unseen.
According to the Brazilian Foreign Ministry, in each category, the five best drawings and two honorable mentions will be named. Selection will be handled by a board of jurors comprising up to nine fine arts professionals, teachers and art critics who will consider originality, technique, creativity and adherence to the theme.
The winners will be awarded prizes at diplomatic posts in their region of residence, including toys, games and children’s books on Brazil donated by Foreign Ministry partner organizations. The winning drawings may be used by the Ministry and related government agencies in its publications and websites.
To enter, send an email to brasileirinhos@itamaraty.gov.br with the subject “Inscrição – VI Concurso de Desenho Infantil Brasileirinhos no Mundo” (VI Little Brazilians Around the World Children’s Drawing Contest). The drawings must be submitted by April 29, 2016 to the diplomatic mission with jurisdiction over the entrant’s place of residence. Drawings entered past that date will not be considered. The board of jurors will convene, choose the winners and announce the results by September 30.
