São Paulo – The Brazilian Ministry of External Relations has launched the debate series Dialogues on Foreign Policy this Wednesday (26th). According to the ministry, the goal is to help draft a “white book” of principles, priorities and lines of action for Brazilian foreign policy, and to foster public debate on the ministry’s work.
Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado attended the inaugural session this morning at the Itamaraty Palace in Brasília.
The debates will be for guests only, featuring scholars, union leaders, social movements delegates, journalists, and government officials. According to the ministry, each session will focus on a different topic, with civil society representatives stating their views.
The ministry reports that the initiative originated from minister Machado’s perception of a growing interest from society in foreign policy issues. The matters at hand include the Middle East. A session to discuss the region should take place in mid-March, though the exact date has not been set yet.
Other topics include trade, Brazilian communities in foreign countries, science, technology, Brazil’s relations with developed countries, energy, Africa, South America and regional integration, international governance, climate chance, sustainable development, Asia, the Brics (Brazil, Russia, China and South Africa) and the Ibsa (India, Brazil and South Africa).
