Rio de Janeiro – A 2.7% slowdown in oil products and biofuels output was the primary cause for the decline in Brazilian industry production in October from September of this year, according to numbers released this Thursday (3rd) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). Besides fuels, production dropped in 14 out of 24 sectors surveyed.
Extraction industries, for instance, had the second biggest impact on industrial production shrinkage with a 2% decline. Other relevant reductions in output took place in motor vehicles (-3%), computer equipment, electronic and optical products (-9.4%), perfumery, soap and cleaning products (-2.4%) and non-metal minerals (-2.1%).
“Each month, industrial production swerves further from its June 2013 peak. The widespread industry slowdown continues,” said IBGE researcher André Macedo.
