Brasília – Cooperation among developing countries located in the Southern Hemisphere is the central link among the Group of 15 (G15), composed of countries from Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Although the name suggests that 15 countries participate, there are really 19: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iran, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Senegal, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.
Founded in 1989, the Group of 15, as well as facilitating cooperation among members, discusses the international economic agenda. At the meeting that begins tomorrow (27) in Caracas, the theme will be Energy and Development. It is hoped that presidents, prime ministers, and chancellors will sign the "Caracas Declaration on Energy and Development," a document that envisages energy cooperation, knowledge transfer, and joint research among the signatory countries.
