São Paulo – Brazil’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), measure of the market value of all the goods and services produced in the country, was up 0.6% in the three months through August 2019 from the three months through May, as per think tank Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV)’s GDP Monitor released this Wednesday (16).
In the three months through August from a year ago, GDP slid by 0.3%. In August alone, GDP was up 0.9% from last July and 0.2% from August 2018.
The 0.6% hike through August over the three months through May was driven by services, up 0.4%, industry, up 0.2%, and agriculture, up 2.4%.
On the demand side, household consumption picked up by 0.7%, with gross fixed capital formation (investment) going up 3%. Government consumption slid 0.1% and exports were down 5.2%. Imports grew by 2.9%.
