São Paulo – The Qatar Foundation International (QFI) is holding the video contest #ISpeakArabic to promote the teaching of the Arabic language. The competition is open to students and aspiring students from around the world. The winner will get a USD 500 prize. QFI is based in Washington, United States, and is affiliated with Doha’s Qatar Foundation.
To enroll, follow QFI on Instagram and Twitter. In their videos, contestants must talk about their interest in Arabic, how they use it in their lives or plan to use it in the future, the impact of the language in their lives, and learning tips. Those who are still planning to start their studies must discuss the reasons for their interest in learning to speak the language.
In order to provide inspiration to candidates, the QFI’s www.ispeakarabic.com website features videos of several people discussing their learning experiences. Video submissions must be spoken in English, but candidates are free to display their Arabic skills. The entries must be homemade and professional productions will be disqualified.
Submissions will be accepted until January 31 on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. The 20 best videos will be shortlisted late this month and then the winners will be voted on. The more people share a video on social media, the bigger the chance it stands to win. Voting will continue until March 31.
The three most voted videos win the contest. The first place wins a gift card for USD 500, the second place gets a USD 50 gift card and the third place takes home memorabilia, including a T-shirt and stickers. The winners will be announced on April 16. People whose first language is Arabic cannot apply.
