São Paulo – At the end of last week, the population of the state of Goiás, a state in midwestern Brazil, learnt a little more about the Arab culture. Club Mount Lebanon, in state capital Goiânia, promoted an event named "Arabs." The exhibition, which took place on August 25, included music presentations, book exhibitions, and Arab objects, as well as belly dancing. Around 7% of the state population is of immigrants or descendants of immigrants from the Arab countries.
The event is part of a program with the objective of announcing different influences in the state culture. Similar events included the Indian, Afro, and Italian cultures. The "Arabs" exhibition was promoted by the Goiás state Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae) together with Mount Lebanon Club, the state government, a group of private companies, and the Goiânia city hall.
