São Paulo – The Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Confederation of Industries (CNI, in the Portuguese acronym) signed a memorandum of intentions this Wednesday (3rd) to establish a company aimed at fostering technological innovation in the industrial segment. The new organization should be modelled after the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), and is being called Embrapi (the ‘i’ stands for industrial).
The memorandum was signed during the opening of the 4th edition of the Brazilian Congress on Industrial Innovation, in São Paulo. In June, upon attending the launch of the Parliamentary Science and Technology Front, minister Aloizio Mercadante had already mentioned the proposal to establish the company.
On the occasion, he informed that the idea is for the organization to comprise centres of excellence such as the Technological Research Institute (IPT), which is linked to the University of São Paulo (USP), the National Institute of Metrology, Standardization and Industrial Quality (Inmetro), linked to the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, and high performance centres of the National Industrial Apprenticeship System (Senai), linked to the CNI.
