São Paulo – The validity of Brazilian passports has been extended from five to ten years. The measure applies to regular, official and diplomatic passports, as well as consular registration cards. The extension was enacted via a decree issued this Friday (12th) on the Official Gazette.
According to the Brazilian Federal Police, it is not yet known when the extended validity of passports will start being issued. Passports already issued will expire on the date printed on them. A new passport can be requested before the current one expires. Currently, the rate for obtaining a passport is R$ 156.07 (US$ 59.3 at current exchange rates).
All of the necessary information to apply for a passport is available at the Federal Police website (www.dpf.org.br).
