Rio de Janeiro – President Dilma Rousseff confirmed this Thursday (12th) that the government is planning to transfer to the private sector the Porto Alegre, Salvador and Florianópolis airports. The announcement was made after the inauguration of works in a port terminal in Rio de Janeiro.
Porto Alegre International Airport Salgado Filho is operated by Infraero since 1974. In October 2001, the International Terminal was inaugurated, and in December 2010 the old passenger terminal was re-inaugurated.
International Airport Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães, in Salvador, operates around 220 daily domestic flights and 57 international ones per week, which makes Salvador one of the main gateways for tourism in Bahia and, consequently, in the Northeast region.
Florianópolis International Airport Hercílio Luz was turned by then Ministry of Aeronautics (today incorporated into the Ministry of Defense) into an international airport in 1995 and went through expansion and weatherization works in 2000.
