Brasília – The Brazilian federal government is planning to hold new bidding rounds in the second half of the year, the Brazilian minister of Planning, Budget and Management Nelson Barbosa has said this Tuesday (17th) at a public hearing in the Federal Senate. According to him, road concessions may stop making headlines because they will become routine.
According to the minister, concession-related studies are underway as part of the targets set by government for the next few years. “A new round for new roads is in the pipeline for the second half, once ongoing studies have been completed.”
Regarding the Rio-Niterói Bridge concession, Barbosa said the auction slated for tomorrow (18th) has drawn bids from six groups, therefore competition is expected for the project.
He noted that in railways, three projects are being considered for tenders in 2015 – the stretches linking Lucas do Rio Verde and Campinorte, in Goiás; Rio de Janeiro and Vitória (Espírito Santo); and Palmas (Tocantins) and Estrela do Oeste (Minas Gerais). “Besides, we have made progress in feasibility studies for concession of Ferrovia Norte-Sul (the North-South Railway) and the plan of intention with Peru and China for building Ferrovia Transoceânica (the Transoceanic Railway). This agreement should be signed before the year ends.”
