Brasília – Starting on February 1st, the mandatory rate of ethanol mixed into gasoline will be 20%. The measure will remain in force for 90 days, after which the rate will return to the current 25%. The decision was made today (11th) by means of an administrative act issued by the ministries of Agriculture, Mines and Energy, Finance, and Development.
The cause for the reduction in the mix is the steadily rising ethanol price, which had been putting pressure on the price of gasoline to the end consumers. Presently, according to the National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel Agency (ANP), only in six states of Brazil is it worth it for owners of bi-fuel automobiles to use ethanol as fuel.
