Rio de Janeiro – The Brazilian minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade Armando Monteiro has said this Thursday (15th) that the country should post a trade surplus of over USD 15 billion in 2015 and double that amount next year, with exports exceeding imports by over USD 30 billion.
Monteiro said manufactured goods exports to the United States have grown 5% this year, and the deficit in bilateral trade of finished goods is poised to decline in 2015. Last year saw a USD 100 billion-plus deficit that should drop to USD 80 billion this year.
"The trade balance result points to a trend of rising exports and replacement of imports, an important development, particularly when it comes to the Brazilian industry,” he said during a plenary meeting of Conselho Empresarial da América Latina, the Latin American business council, taking place today and tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro.
