São Paulo – The higher education secretary of Brazil, Ronaldo Mota, and the chancellor of the University of Lebanon, Zouheir Chokr, met on Friday (7th) in Brazilian capital Brasília to discuss joint research programs between universities in both countries.
According to an article published on the Ministry of Education site, the meeting followed through with the engagements established in the Brazil-Lebanon Seminar, promoted in August by the University of Brasília (UnB), in Brazil, which includes several representatives of the educational sector in the Arab country.
During the meeting, academic cooperation between both countries was discussed in the area of higher education. The seminar also served as preparation for a visit by a committee of Brazilian chancellors to Lebanon in April next year.
According to Mota, the Lebanese community in Brazil, including descendents, is greater than the population of Lebanon itself. "For this reason, making relations closer is a special priority of the Brazilian government. In higher education, the commitment will result in greater mobility of students and professors from the two countries."
