São Paulo – The Brazilian production of grains should reach 288.2 million tons in ten years, up 51 million tons, or 21.5%, over the 2016/2017 crop, according to a forecast made available this Friday (21) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) and by the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA). Maize and soy will drive up the output.
The forecast also shows that the planted area, in all cultures (grains and others), will expand 13.5% over the current one, going from 74 million hectares to 84 million hectares. The general coordinator of MAPA’s Studies and Analysis of the Secretariat of Agricultural Policy, José Garcia Gasques, says that the growth will be driven by productivity, domestic consumption and exports.
