São Paulo – The Brazilian grain production could reach 202.18 million tons in the 2014/2015 harvest, a 4.5% increase over the previous cycle. According to the 4th grain survey released this Friday (09) by the National Supply Company, the harvest expansion in volumes might reach 8.75 million tons.
Soybean will come as the main grain produced in the country, both in volume and crop area. Although the rain season came late, which affects the beginning of planting, according to Conab, the soybean crop is in “good development”.
In this cycle, the soybean production should amount to 95.9 million tons, an 11.4% increase over the previous season. The crop area should reach 31.6 million hectares, an increase of 4.8% in the same comparison.
Wheat and corn should produce less. With the former, the climate variations forced an estimation revision: from 7.6 to 5.9 million tons. The latter should drop about 1.1% in comparison to the previous harvest and produce 79 million tons.
The total area intended for grain planting in Brazil is estimated in 57.8 million hectares, 1.3% larger than the planted area in the previous cycle.
Record in 2014
This Friday (09) also, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported that the 2014 grain production should be confirmed at 192.8 million tons, a record-breaking volume with a 2.4% expansion over 2013.
The difference between the estimations from Conab and IBGE occurs because the former does its survey over the crop year while the latter does it over the calendar year.
