São Paulo – Emirates and Qatar Airways are partially resuming their flights from Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and Doha, Qatar, respectively. Both airlines operate regular routes to São Paulo. Emirates also flies to Rio de Janeiro, but operations to that destination have not yet resumed.
According to information from the UAE’s state news agency WAM, Emirates is expected to operate more than 100 flights between Thursday (5) and Friday (6), transporting passengers, perishable goods, and medicines. The airline said it will gradually resume its operations as the UAE airspace reopens.
One of the airline’s flights landed on Wednesday (4) at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, and another is scheduled to arrive on Thursday (5). An aircraft that had been parked at the terminal departed back to Dubai on Thursday. Airspace and ports in Middle Eastern countries have been closed or are operating with restrictions due to the conflict involving the United States and Israel against Iran, which has carried out retaliatory attacks against Arab countries.
On its website, the airline says it is operating with reduced flights for an indefinite period. “Customers are advised to check flight status, review the latest operational updates on emirates.com, and check their email for any notifications about changes or cancellations to their flights before travelling to the airport,” the company said. Emirates has made available on its website a list of cities with flights scheduled for Thursday, which is periodically updated and can be accessed here.
Qatar Airways says it is organizing a limited number of “relief flights” to support passengers affected by the airspace closure. The airline asks passengers not to go to the airport unless they have been officially notified with confirmation of their flight. More information is available at this link.
Shipping lines limit operations
Major shipping lines have suspended or limited bookings and operations at key Middle Eastern ports. Danish company Maersk announced the suspension of bookings for refrigerated container shipments originating from, transiting through, or destined for the UAE, Oman, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia, with exceptions for the port of Salalah in Oman. It also announced the suspension of bookings for dangerous goods, dry cargo, and out-of-gauge cargo. CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, ONE, and MSC Cargo are also operating with limitations and diverting vessels to contingency ports. The information may be updated at any time.
