Porangatu, Goiás – Visiting some of the Amazon’s sites that are most prominent in the news today and in the recent past. This is one of the objectives of the E.torQ Amazônia journey, a car trip from São Paulo to Pará that is organised by the Association of Foreign Correspondents (ACE), sponsored by Fiat, Goodyear and Tesacom.
ANBA is included among the journalists participating in the event. The group left São Paulo on Saturday morning (02), in two vehicles, a Palio Adventure and a Dobló van, specially equipped for the adventure.
During the weekend, the expedition covered over 1,600 kilometres, passing through Ribeirão Preto, in São Paulo, Uberlândia, Uberaba and Cristalina, in Minas Gerais, Brasília, in the Federal District, and Porangatu, in Goiás, close to the border with Tocantins, from where they are leaving today on the way to Conceição do Araguaia, in the state of Pará.
In Pará, the idea is to visit sites like Carajás mine, explored by mining company Vale, Serra Pelada, mining grounds famous in the 1980s, and the site where hydroelectric power plant Belo Monte should be built, as well as the famous Transamazonic Highway, among others.
ANBA will publish articles about these places as the visits take place. The group plans to be back in São Paulo on October 24th. If the condition of the roads allows, the return trip will be on BR-163, a highway connecting Pará to Mato Grosso, a state that is very strong in agribusiness.
