United Nations agencies are going to support 30 countries over the next seven years for the strategic development of the green economy. The initiative was released on Tuesday (19) in Kenya and the objective is to create new jobs and areas of operation, promote clean technologies, reduce poverty and risks to the environment, according to figures disclosed by the UN. The agencies that participate in the partnership are the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (Unido) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar). They are part of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (Page), established based on the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), which took place in Rio de Janeiro last year.
Money in Tunisia
Tunisian industry received 15% greater investment in the first month of this year as against January 2012, according to figures disclosed by the Arab country’s Industrial Promotion and Innovation Agency. They rose from 305.2 million Tunisian dinars (US$ 195 million) to 351.6 million dinars (US$ 224 million). The Tunisian industrial sector’s exports also rose 10.4% in the month, from 1.628 billion dinars (US$ 1.04 billion) to 1.798 billion dinars (US$ 1.15 billion – all figures at current exchange rates).
Machinery
Producers of machinery are making efforts to increase their exports. In the first half of February, equipment producers in the shoe and leather sector received importers from three Latin American countries, Mexico, Colombia and Ecuador. The meetings generated US$ 336,000 in sales and an expected US$ 743,000 over coming months. The importers were in Brazil during Carnival in an action developed by the Brazilian Association of Industries of Machinery and Equipment for Leather, Footwear and Related Products (Abrameq) in partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex). Apart from visiting factories, buyers attended talks about sector companies and participated in roundtables.
