São Paulo – Since last week, Brazilian hotels are required to report operations involving foreign guests, such as food and beverage provisions, legal and accounting services, the lodging itself, publishing services and others. The data are to be submitted to the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade.
The measure is part of the implementation of the Integrated Foreign Trade System for Services, Intangibles and Other Operations which Produce Variations in Equity (Siscoserv), and intends to include tourism as an exporting activity, including its fiscal treatment. Establishments registered as Individual or Simple Entrepreneurs are exempt.
“Through the Siscoserv, the government will be able to keep track of what Brazil is importing and exporting, service-wise, and garner specific information from establishments with regard to the tourism production chain,” explained the executive secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Valdir Simão, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
