São Paulo – Hurricane Irene, which hit the East Coast of the United States last weekend, delayed designer Karim Rashid’s trip to São Paulo, scheduled for today (29). The talk was scheduled to be presented on Monday, at the 41st edition of the Gift Fair at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo. It has been postponed to Wednesday (31).
Due to the hurricane, the airports on the East Coast of the United States were closed over the weekend and were only reopened on Monday morning, when Rashid left the United States for Brazil. He should arrive in São Paulo on Monday evening and on Tuesday should work on his agenda in the country.
Apart from the talk about design as differential to win markets, Rashid should meet businessmen in the sector at the headquarters of the National Plastic Institute (INP) and give a lesson at Belas Artes University. The Egyptian designer is coming to Brazil at the invitation of the Export Plastic Program, which is coordinated by the INP and supported by the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex).
Rashid was born in Egypt in 1960 and was raised in Canada. He is currently considered one of the main designers of household appliances. Rashid defends objects with modern, beautiful or functional design that are accessible to all people, not just the rich. Among the companies that have already established partnerships with Rashid are brands Prada and Ralph Lauren, makers of electronics (Sony and Samsung), carmakers (Hyundai) and even Brazilian shoe producer Melissa.
