Brasília – The president of the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB), Luis Alberto Moreno, met on Tuesday (19) with president Dilma Rousseff to discuss projects financed by the institution in Brazil and said that he is optimistic about the country economy.
According to Moreno, this year the IADB should invest US$ 2 billion in Brazil through partnerships with states for the financing of projects in areas like health, education, sanitation and infrastructure. The bank also has US$ 200 million available for credit for the private sector in the country. Apart from this total, the institution is studying expanding investment in Brazil by up to US$ 1.5 billion in 2013.
The Colombian said that the IADB is studying partnerships with the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) and that, together with international investors, it may participate in infrastructure and logistics projects that the government plans to release.
In the evaluation of the president of the IADB, Brazil is the institution’s greatest and most important partner. When asked about the lower than expected growth of the economy, Moreno said that the figures are not concerning to the bank. “The economy of Brazil and other parts of the world have cycles. I am very optimistic and a great admirer of the country.” The executive said that the 2014 Cup and the 2016 Olympics should attract a great volume of investment for Brazil in coming years.
