Rio de Janeiro – The first forecast for the 2018 national crop yield, made in January, shows a decline of 6% over the previous year. The production of cereals, legumes and oil seeds should reach 226.1 million tons, a reduction of 14.5 million tons over 2017. The forecast made by the Systematic Survey of Agricultural Production (LSPA) was released this Thursday (8) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The three main products of this group, which are rice, maize and soy beans, accounted for 92.8% of the production forecast, and for 86.8% of the planted area. In comparison to 2017, there was an increase of 2% in the planted area of soy beans, and reductions in the planted areas of maize (7.1%) and rice (5.7%).
