São Paulo – The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) said in a report that it estimates 2.6% average annual growth in Latin America and the Caribbean from 2018 through 2020. The rate is lower than the expected global average – a result of weak investment and productivity, the IDB said.
The expected growth rate also falls short of projected rates for emerging Asian and European countries, which are seen growing by 6.5% and 3.7%. In Latin America, Southern Cone nations (Brazil not included) are expected to pick up by 2.9%, with Mexico growing by 2.7% and Brazil’s economy expanding by 2%.
