Madrid – The director-general of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Guy Ryder, questioned this Tuesday (28) the way in which the economic crisis was dealt with around the world, and warned that unemployment will continue to grow. “Each year there are and will be more unemployed persons in the world, and that has dramatic consequences,” Ryder said this morning over a breakfast event in Madrid.
He spoke in praise of social dialogue and called on governments to tailor public policies around employment, because it represents much more than a way of making money; he said it’s about “giving meaning to the human experience.”
Ryder said the world needs 40 million new jobs per year, but conceded that that would be unfeasible. One of the solutions that he pointed to was job sharing.
