Brasília – Stating import operations will become faster and simpler as of this Thursday (23rd), through online registering and follow-up. In the past, those interested had to install applications in their computers, and a “dedicated network” was required in order to access the so-called Siscomex (Portuguese acronym for Foreign Trade Systems) of the Brazilian government.
“The new system enables parallel consultations and will benefit mostly small importers, who will not be required to download applications to their computer, among other things. It is a way of speeding up the whole process. It is a major step forward for Siscomex Imports, and the first major change in technological platform,” said the Customs and International Relations undersecretary at the Federal Revenue service, Ernani Argolo Checcucci Filho.
Siscomex, which has been operating since 1997, is a computerized system connecting importers, exporters, forwarders, and government agencies, including the Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, the Central Bank, and the Federal Revenue.
Through the online system Siscomex Importação Web, several applications will be available anytime, anywhere, via digital certification. The Federal Revenue was unable to inform the exact number of operators who use the system, but estimates there are more than 200,000.
According to Checcucci, the system is secure and is part of a strategy for technological modernization of the Federal Revenue’s computerized systems, with transparency, agility, and cost reduction in customs-related processes. The system interface has also become more user-friendly, with simple browsing and access to several menus.
