Rio de Janeiro – Internet access in Brazil grew 75.3% from 2005 to 2008 and comprised approximately 56 million people aged 10 or over. The rate of Brazilians who accessed the web at least once in their lifetime went from 20.9% to 34.8%.
Previously used mostly as a source of knowledge and to help education, the internet is now being more accessed to make communication between people easier in Brazil.
This was the main conclusion of the Supplement on Internet Access and Mobile Telephone Ownership or Personal Use covering the 2005/2008 period.
The survey, disclosed today (11th) by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE), was based on the National Household Sample Survey (Pnad), also conducted by the IBGE.
The IBGE’s document also reveals that over half the Brazilians use cellular telephones. From 2005 to 2008, the rate of users rose from 36.6% to 53.8%.
