São Paulo – Apparent consumption of industrial chemicals slid by 10.1% in Brazil year-on-year from January to April, the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (Abiquim) reported. Domestic production also dropped, by 6.56%, and imports were down 21.2%.
Abiquim Economy and Statistics director Fátima Giovanna Coviello Ferreira imputes the drop to the slowdown in Brazilian economy activity early on this year. “The drop in production and demand are explained by reduced activity and product purchases, especially intermediate inputs for fertilizer manufacturing,” she said.
