Rio de Janeiro – Industrial employment was up 0.2% in July this year from June, but the total wages paid were down 1%. The data was culled from the Monthly Industrial Employment and Wage Survey issued this Wednesday (12th) by the Brazilian Institute for Geography and Statistics (IBGE, in the Portuguese acronym). In July, employment indicators have shown the first positive result after four months of decline.
The combined loss in terms of jobs in the preceding months was 1.2%. Compared with the same month of 2011, the index was down 1.6%. The index declined for the tenth consecutive month, though not as sharply this time. The sequence of negative results amounts to a combined 1.3% decline year-to-date.
