Rio de Janeiro – The decline of 2.5% in the Brazilian industrial production in February over January of this year reflects the retraction in industrial parks in 11 of 14 metro areas surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), which released this Thursday (7) its Monthly Survey of Industry – Regional Physical Production.
The data shows that, in the seasonally adjusted series, the sharpest declines were registered in Bahia, where it reached 7.9%, and Amazon, with 4.7%, the ninth consecutive fall in the state. Also ending February with falls sharper than the national average were the Northeast region with 3.6%; Santa Catarina (-3.3%); and Ceará (-2.8%). Pernambuco had the same fall of the national average at 2.5%. In São Paulo, the largest industrial park in the country, the decline in February over January was 2.1%. Other areas were Rio de Janeiro (-1.9%); Paraná (-1.6%); Rio Grande do Sul (-1.3%); and Minas Gerais (-0.7%).
