Rio de Janeiro – Industrial production ended 2015 in decline in 12 out of 15 regions surveyed by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). The steepest drops occurred in Amazonas (-16.8%), Rio Grande do Sul (-11.8%) and São Paulo (-11%), according to data from the Monthly Survey of Industry – Regional Physical Production.
The states of Ceará (-9.7%) and Paraná (-9.6%) also declined to lower rates than the average national decline (-8.3%). Other states in which the industrial production stumbled in 2015 were Minas Gerais (-7.9%), Santa Catarina (-7.9%), Bahia (-7%), Rio de Janeiro (-6.5%), Pernambuco (-3.5%), Northeast Region (-3%) and Goiás (-2.5%). Three states had an increase in production: Pará (5.7%), Mato Grosso (4.7%) and Espírito Santo (4.4%).
