Rio de Janeiro – Industrial production in Brazil declined in nine of the 14 states researched by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) from October to November 2013. The strongest decline was observed in the Midwestern state Goiás (4.1%). Next are the states of Santa Catarina (-3.1%), Ceará (-1.6%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-1.4%), according to the Monthly Industrial Research – Regional Physical Production, released this Friday (10).
Also showing production decreases were the states of Paraná (0.7%), Amazonas (0.4%), São Paulo 0.3%), Pará (0.2%) and Espírito Santo (0.1%). The industrial production national average, released last Wednesday (08), declined by 0.2%. Five places showed an increase in industrial production: the Northeast of Brazil (6.5%), and the states of Bahia (4.4%), Pernambuco (3%), Minas Gerais (0.3%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.2%).
When comparing November 2013 to the same period in 2012, there was an increase in production in seven places and a decrease in seven. The highlights were the states of Paraná, with the highest increase (12.2%), and Rio de Janeiro, with the strongest decline (3.1%).
