Brasília – The decline in production and financial difficulties resulted in a reduction of labor and layoffs. According to the study Special Survey – Jobs, by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), released this Wednesday (8th), 60% of the companies in the sector took extraordinary measures to reduce the use of labor, such as mandatory vacation or fewer shifts, and cut down the number of employees. In the auto sector, this number reaches 78%. In industries that manufacture other transportation equipment, such as airplanes, ships and trailers, the number stands at 73%.
The layoffs reached half of the industries in the last six months. The percentage of companies that cut down the number of employees is higher with medium-size companies (54%) and lower with large ones (48%). With small-size companies the percentage stood at 49%. The sector with the highest percentage of companies that had layoff was the auto sector. The lowest percentage for layoffs occurred with beverages industries. In this sector, 58% of the companies said they didn’t cut down the number of employees.
