Brasília – The confidence of industry entrepreneurs in Brazil dropped again after staying level in August, the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) reported this Friday (18th). The Industry Entrepreneur Confidence Index (Icei) was down 1.4 point in September to 35.7 points, the lowest score since records started being kept in 1999. The number is down 10.9 points from September 2014 and 19.8 points from the historical average.
According to the CNI, with this result, the indicator has now remained for a year and a half below the 50-point threshold, which indicates pessimism from industrialists. The Icei ranges from zero to 100 and scores lower than 50 show lack of confidence.
For medium-sized companies, the Icei dropped from 36.8 to 35.1 points in September from August. The index for large companies went down from 37.8 to 36.1. The score for small businesses remained virtually flat, from 35.8 to 35.5 points. The CNI conducted the poll from September 1st to 14th with 2,972 businesses from across Brazil.
