Rio de Janeiro – In August 2015, industrial production in Brazil dropped in ten out of 14 locations surveyed compared with July, the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) reported this Wednesday (7th).
The sharpest drops in output took place in Pará (-4%), Goiás (-3.2%) and Rio Grande do Sul (-2.8%), whose rates were higher than the national average. In August, Brazilian industry output as a whole was down 1.2%, as per a survey issued by the IBGE last Friday (2nd).
Production in the states of Amazonas (-2.2%), Pernambuco (-2.2%), Espírito Santo (-1.9%), São Paulo (-1.7%) and Paraná (-1.3%) also declined above the national average; Bahia (-1%) and the Northeast region (-0.6%) were the other locations where output declined in August 2015.
On the other hand, industry production in Ceará was up 3.5%, the strongest growth, partly offsetting the 4.5% decline in the preceding month. The other states where output grew were Santa Catarina (1.1%), Minas Gerais (0.9%) and Rio de Janeiro (0.2%).
