São Paulo – The Brazilian crop output of cereals, leguminous and oleaginous is expected to grow 4.4% in 2015 in comparison with last year and reach 201.3 million tons. The first estimation of the year for 2015 was released this Thursday (12th) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).
The estimation also indicates that the harvested area will be of 57.2 million hectares, or 1.6% bigger than the one registered in 2014. According to the IBGE, rice, corn and soybeans are the main product of this year’s crop and should amount to 91.6% of the total production.
The National Supply Company (Conab, in the Portuguese acronym) also released this Thursday (12th) its estimation for the 2014/2015 crop of grains. In it, the crop should go beyond 200.8 million tons, an increase of 3.4% over the 2013/2014 period. Soybeans production should reach 94.58 million tons, almost half of the total.
This was the 5th survey released by Conab. The last edition of the study had the crop of grains at 202.18 million tons.
The different figures brought by the estimations of IBGE and Conab occur because the former calculates the crop of the calendar year, that is, the amount produced that year. While Conab takes into account the crop year.
