São Paulo – The number of arrivals on international flights in Brazil reached 630,637 in July this year, representing growth of 5.5% over the same month in 2007, according to figures supplied by the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero) and disclosed yesterday (26) by the Brazilian Tourism Institute (Embratur).
In the accumulated result for the year so far, arrivals stand at 3,836,199, representing expansion of 3.13% over the first seven months of 2007. Considering regular flights only and excluding charter flights, according to the Embratur, the expansion rate was 6% in the period from January to July, and 7.78% last month.
According to a press release issued by the Embratur, the director of Survey and Research at the institute, José Francisco de Salles Lopes, stated that the result recorded in July is the second best in 2008, and also that the growth in the accumulated result for the year points to a "gradual recovery in the number of seats in international flights."
According to the Embratur, charter flights answered to 178,537 international arrivals in the period ranging from January to July. The figures concern foreigners arriving in the country and Brazilians that returned from abroad.
