São Paulo – Last year, 7.8 million passengers arrived in Brazil on international flights, an increase of 20.9% compared with 2009, according to data disclosed by the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero). In December, arrivals totalled 689,800, an increase of 16.23% in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
Domestic arrivals grew by 20.82% last year compared with 2009. A total of 67.6 million passengers arrived on domestic flights, the highest figure since records started being kept, in 1993.
In December alone, there were 6.4 million arrivals, a 20.83% increase. It was the highest monthly figure ever. The previous record had been set in October 2010.
The figures for 2010 exceeded the expectations of the Ministry of Tourism both in domestic flights, for which 65 million arrivals were expected, and international ones, which were expected to reach 7 million.
