São Paulo – In August, 722,300 passengers arrived in Brazil on international flights, representing growth of 32.5% over the same month of last year. The data were supplied by the Brazilian Airport Infrastructure Company (Infraero).
From January until August, international arrivals totalled 5.118 million passengers, an all-time record, exceeding the previous record by 11.77%. The data supplied by Infraero include arrivals of passengers living in Brazil and otherwise.
Passenger turnover on domestic flights at Brazilian airports grew by 30.6% in August. It was also the best month ever, with 6 million arrivals, as against 4.6 million last year.
In the first eight months this year, arrivals totalled 43.3 million, another record high. There was growth of 23% compared with the same period of 2009.
According to the minister of Tourism, Luiz Barreto, should the rate of domestic arrivals be maintained, then it will be possible to close the year with 64 million arrivals. In 2009, 56 million passengers arrived at the country’s airports, according to information supplied by the Infraero.
