Rio de Janeiro – The Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea) has launched this Thursday (7) the Center for Research in Science, Technology and Society (CTS). The new nucleus brings together researchers from different areas of knowledge focused on the study of the impacts of science and technology on economy, society and the population’s quality of life, especially in areas related to health, education and sustainability.
“Now that science has been in question, it’s vital to discuss the importance that the scientific and technologic production has on the development of Brazil and how to extend these positive impacts on the development, economic growth and income generation,” said CTS coordinator researcher Fernanda De Negri.
During the launch of the new center, CTS researcher Priscila Koeller presented a study showing that investment in science and technology has dropped in the last few years and may reach the levels of the 2000s if the government doesn’t release the resources this year.
