São Paulo – Representatives of the Al-Bunnia Trading Group are in Brazil to attend business meetings with national companies at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce headquarters. The meetings will start today (12th) and should continue until Friday, involving at least 18 companies.
“We are seeking various items, such as agricultural machinery and equipment, heavy construction equipment and Brazilian products such as sugar, maize and beef. We are aware that Brazil is very rich in several areas, it is one of the largest producing countries in the world,” says Khalil Al-Bunnia, the group’s CEO, regarding his visit to the country. He came accompanied by the company’s executive director, Nazar Samarrai.
The Al Bunnia group has existed for 100 years. Based in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, it also has branches in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The businessman explains that this is his seventh trip to Brazil, and that he returned because of an invitation made by Salim Taufic Schahin, the Arab Brazilian Chamber’s president, during a visit to Jordan last March, on the occasion of president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s trip to the Middle East.
“We have long-standing relations with several [Brazilian] companies, such as Scania, Marcopolo, Caterpillar. We know Brazil well, and want to cooperate further and further,“ says the CEO.
To him, the Iraqi market offers many opportunities for Brazilian companies. “Iraq is a very wealthy country, and after having faced several wars we need virtually everything, from pens to aircraft. Thus, many companies stand a chance of having a market in Iraq.”
