São Paulo – This Wednesday (16th), the Jordanian government signed a preliminary agreement with Abu Dhabi’s Masdar company to develop renewable energy projects in the country. the information was disclosed in a press release by the Emirati company. Established in 2006 by the Abu Dhabi government, Masdar develops clean energy and sustainable technology projects.
According to the release, the document provides that Masdar will participate in Jordan’s project to transition from oil dependency to a safer, more diversified energy system. The agreement was signed during the World Future Energy Summit, held in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, an event focusing on renewable energy and sustainable development in the Middle East and worldwide.
“Jordan’s steadfast desire to navigate a path toward energy security and sustainability is of great national importance,” said Alaa Batayneh, the Jordanian minister for Energy and Mineral Resources. “The renewable energy industry is set to provide a significant boost to our economy as well provide a pathway to meet future energy demands.”
The agreement between Masdar and the Jordanian government has two components. The first is to facilitate Masdar’s bidding in tenders for renewable energy projects. The second is for the Emirati company to provide consulting services to Jordanians in renewable energy ventures.
Recently, Jordan has implemented a system by which natural persons and owners of small and medium businesses who own solar energy systems at their houses or establishments can sell their energy surplus to power utilities, leading to a 32% to 70% reduction in their monthly power bills.
