São Paulo – The Jordan Tourism Board (JTB) is working to get more Brazilians to visit the country in 2019. “We have the target of increasing Brazilian tourist numbers by at least 10%,” JTB Marketing manager for Brazil Majd Abu Arqub said during an event (pictured above) at the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce auditorium in São Paulo last week.
Jordan Ministry of Tourism numbers show that in 2017, over 13,300 Brazilians visited major tourist sites in Jordan. March 2019 saw JTB delegates travel to four capitals across Brazil to promote Jordan as a destination. The events were attended by journalists and influencers. The new tourism strategy is also intended to get Brazilians to spend more time in Jordan.
After a hiatus unrepresented in Brazil, the JTB appointed Brazil-based company Global Vision Access Marketing e Comunicação em Turismo (GVA) as its local representative. “We want to increase the number of days these people spend in Jordan. We want them to be there for more than just one full day. We want them to get accommodations and see more of the country,” explained GVA relationship manager Renata Rimbano during the road show in São Paulo.
Jordan tourism marketing is now focusing on packages of at least 8 days, so travelers can see cities other than Petra – a widely known destination. Petra welcomed 11,751 out of the 13,000-plus Brazilian tourists visiting Jordan in 2017, as per Jordan Ministry of Tourism figures.
“We have begun to dominate the market in Brazil, and in our first road show we travelled to Curitiba, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte and São Paulo. We met with journalists and church people to discuss the attractions in Jordan, and the interest in Jordan as a destination in Brazil,” Arqub told ANBA. During the trip to Brazil, he ascertained that there’s keen interest in visiting Jordan, but not much access to information yet; this is is why he’s visiting Brazil. “This is the purpose of our visit to Brazil,” he concluded.
