São Paulo – The 20-year-old Jordanian Ahmad Abughaush won the men’s under-68 kg taekwondo tournament at the Rio Olympics. Abughaush’s is the first gold medal ever won by Jordan in an Olympics.
Last Thursday (18) saw him win matches against Egypt’s Ghofran Ahmed, South Korea’s Daehoon Lee, Spain’s Joel Gonzalez Bonilla, and Russia’s Alexey Denisenko to take the gold medal.
Also in taekwondo, 23-year-old Hedaya Whaba of Egypt won bronze in women’s under-57 kg. She defeated Belgium’s Raheleh Asemani in repechage after losing a semifinals match to Eva Calvo Gomez of Spain. Hers was Egypt’s third bronze in this edition of the Games.
