Rio de Janeiro – The Jordanian minister of Foreign Relations, Nasser Judeh, talked about trade relations between the two countries and peace in the Middle East with the Brazilian foreign minister, Celso Amorim, in Rio de Janeiro today (28th). “I am resuming the meetings that our majesty [king Abdullah II] had in Brazil in 2008,” minister Judeh told ANBA.
This is the minister’s first visit to a Latin American country. According to him, after Brazil he will head to Argentina and Chile, which were also visited by king Abdullah II in 2008. Speaking to Amorim, Judeh stated that Jordan wants to organize a business mission to Brazil in mid-July. “It will be a mission to promote cooperation between the two countries,” he said.
According to the minister, Jordan may be a gateway into other Arab countries for Brazil. “We have many projects. there are opportunities for investing in transport, water treatment, tourism, among others, and Brazil may collaborate,” claimed Judeh.
Another matter discussed with Amorim was peace in the Middle East. “We are counting on help from Brazil,” said the minister. According to him, solving the Palestinian issue requires support. “The Brazilian government has been very receptive,” he added.
Today, the Arab minister had luncheon with the Brazilian president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, alongside ministers from approximately 50 other countries. The authorities attended the opening of the 3rd Forum of the United Nations’ Alliance of Civilizations, which will continue until tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro.
